Property Prices Down by up to 50% in Spain

October 25, 2011

A recent report released by the government last week reveals the average house price in Spain has fallen by 22% since the peak of 2008, which means the average price of Spanish property is now down to 2005 levels. These figures are based on price per square meter which currently stands at approximately 1,700 euros. Some of the price falls can be attributed to developers overbuilding and which has left them desperately seeking buyers and offering us big discounts. There are also many properties that have been repossessed or require a quick sale from the owners. Read the rest of this entry »

Second Runway at Malaga Airport Complete

October 11, 2011

The new second runway at Malaga airport is now complete and will be ready for operation in March 2012. Spain has seen a record number of people enter the country this year, and the property market seems to be picking up once more, so the new runway will ensure the continued growth of the airport and the area. Many airlines have increased their number of flights to Spain and some airlines have even introduced flights to Spain from smaller airports in the UK, such as Southend.

The new runway, with its 32cm deep asphalt, is able to accept all the latest generation planes which are bigger and heavier than before. The majority of visitors to Spain will come by air so many businesses count on these flights for customers. Malaga airport provides over 6000 jobs but there are many indirect jobs in tourism that also depend on the airport. With increased flights and another runway, we should see an even bigger rise in tourists next year. Read the rest of this entry »

Should you make a Spanish will?

September 13, 2011

If you are a Spanish home owner and wish to leave your property to your children, spouse or partner when you die, its vital to make a Spanish will in addition to your English one. It’s not a great subject to talk about but realistically its one we must think about.

In Spain the laws are very different from the UK when it comes to inheritance. If you pass away without a Spanish will (testamento) stating your wishes, your estate will be split up under Spanish laws of inheritance. When buying a property in Spain, making a will should be part of that process. It’s not usually very costly, and it will make it much easier for your loved ones if you pass away.
